A few nights ago I was reading a book about baby animals to Jaden. When we got to the page about wolves I told him that a baby wolf was called a pup. I asked him if they reminded him of anything and he said that they look like puppy dogs. Jaden then got quiet for awhile, finally he asked (with the most serious and innocent expression), "How do they blow houses down?"
I could not help bursting out in laughter! See the previous night we had been reading a "chapter" book of nursery tales and two of the stories in the book (The Three Little Pigs, and The Wolf and the Seven Kids) talk about wolves blowing down houses!
In other news Jaden scored his first goal ever in his 1st soccer game on Saturday!

Apple pie
One of my favorite fall treats:) I love to bake and have made quite a few apple pies recently (because currently Gramps apple tree is overflowing with apples) and Jaden especially has been gobbling the pies up! Last week Bryson helped too.
Here he is using the apple peeler/slicer/corer thingy that I couldn't live without!
All of the apple slices with some sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg
and, of course, a little lemon juice and zest.
Usually I make my own crust, which is the part that takes the longest! But I was lazy and decided to use store-bought crust. I always put a mixture of heavy whipping cream and sugar (warmed in the microwave) on top of the crust.
I brush it on and it makes the crust taste so much better!
The finished product:

I just have to tell about my favorite cookbook. My dad bought this for me a few years ago and it is the best cookbook. I love all of the tips in it, the pictures, the way it is organized and divided into sections. It has some very delicious recipes that are easy to make.

Bryson's 1st day of preschool
Bryson started at the Coop school that Jaden used to attend on Friday, September 12th. This year he will go every Friday from 9:30 until 11:30 with me:)
I had to get his 1st day of school pic, not exactly an easy thing to do with a busy and excited almost 2 year old!
No wonder, he wanted to sit on his chair on the porch!
I finally managed to get him to stand in front of the door. . .
He really enjoyed taking apart and putting together this puzzle all by himself.
Playdough was fun as well.
Snack time is always a favorite!
Bryson enjoyed music time and loved the bells, when it was time to put them away he signed "all done" and ran out of the room (even though music time was not finished).
Lastly, Teacher Ingrid gave him some sheep stamps on his hands and tummy and that completed his 1st day of preschool. One of his favorite parts was watching the guy mow the lawn outside as we were walking to the car, at first he thought his daddy was there! (Have I mentioned before how obsessed Bryson is with lawn mowers, he LOVES them!).

The last few weekends we have been busy working in our yard (which we basically ignored all summer) in the mornings and then taking the boat out to Lake Washington in the afternoons. September weather is not always nice around here but this year it has been unusually beautiful with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70's. Last weekend, Todd and I took the boys out in the boat and then went to Lake Union for some fish and chips from Ivars. We made it back to the boat launch just as it was getting dark.

Today we brought Rachelle out with us as well, but decided to bring a picnic dinner and just hang out in the cove. Jaden was the only one of us who wanted to go swimming, mostly we just hung out in the boat enjoying the late summer weather. I didn't bring the camera so no pics from today!

Blair and Drew's wedding
On Saturday, September 6th we attended Rachelle's (Todd's sister) best friends wedding. Rachelle and Blair have been good friends since high school and we were very honored to be able to attend. The wedding was an intimate affair held at a Victorian Manor in Snohomish Washington. The weather was absolutely beautiful with the temperature in the 70's and the ceremony and reception were lovely.

Labor Day weekend at the lake
I have been slacking on this blogging again! Here it is the middle of September and I am just writing about Labor Day weekend. . . oh well! We had a really nice time out at the lake, the only complaint: the weather could have been warmer (but I guess it could have been worse too! At least it didn't rain!). Lots of family came (Todd's grandparents, mom, sister and her boyfriend, and my parents too).

Jaden spotted a family of raccoons in the tree. In broad daylight these little nocturnal creatures were just hanging out staring at us!

Jaden's 1st day of Preschool 2008
Today was Jaden's 1st day of preschool (for this year he has actually gone to a "preschool" since he was 9 mo. old!). He was sad to see the summer end but excited to see his friends again. He goes to a local Montessori school that I used to teach at.
He started off with a healthy breakfast: Egg McMuffin our style!

Bryson was a little sad to see him go, when we got back in the car he kept saying, "Where JJ go?" Then he "called" him on his play phone and said, "Hi JJ, bye bye JJ". . . he's gonna miss his brother!

What I will miss about the summer. . .
Since Labor Day always signifies the end of summer I thought that I would blog a bit on what I will miss about the summer of 2008 that flew by way to fast! Plus a few things that we did that I forgot to write about!
(of course I will mostly do it with pictures 'cause that's pretty much what my blog is about. . . shameless pictures of my family:)
I will miss. . .
. . . the lake house (we can and do go in the winter but it is just not the same as the summer)

. . . the fun island and playing in the water
Great Grandma Jane even went swimming this summer!
. . . seeing Bryson playing with his construction trucks in just a diaper
. . . chillin' in the boat
. . . going to the Newcastle park (Grandma Annette is in the striped dress with the boys)

. . . having popsicles on the deck with their buddies (Weston & Wagner)
. . . watching the kids play in the kiddie pool
. . . or the sprinkler
. . . or the wading pools at the parks
. . . taking day trips like this one I took the kids on the water taxi to downtown Seattle

Jaden and Kailee were both fascinated and disgusted with the wall of gum that is in Pike alley!
. . . going to the aquarium (actually will not miss this one as we do this a lot in the colder months, but it is extra fun to take the water taxi there!)
Todd came across the street (from his office) to wrestle with the kids on the grassy knoll after we came back (the water taxi and a view of downtown is behind them).
. . . watching Bryson pushing his bike around pretending that it is a lawnmower
. . . eating out on the deck
. . . playing in the backyard
. . .watching the boys "drive" the boat
. . . taking nature hikes
. . . going to the drive-in (which we only did once this summer! We saw Kung-Fu Panda and I fell asleep 10 min. into it but Todd and Jaden enjoyed it:)
I will also miss the smell of sunscreen on my boys, warm days, campfires and making s'mores, taking the boat out on Lake Washington, and hanging out with my family watching my boys enjoy the summer.
Things that I will NOT miss. . .
packing, unpacking, doing extra laundry, cleaning and putting away camping stuff, cleaning sand out of my laundry room and the boys bathroom, basically the mundane-not-so-fun stuff!
More on the not-super-sunny-but-still-a-ton-of-fun Labor Day weekend at the lake later, I've got to get to bed because Jaden's 1st day of preschool is tomorrow!
